What size of garnet is suitable for ship sandblasting?
The most commonly used grits for ship sandblasting are 20/40 and 30/60 grit.
I. Core Recommended Grits
Ship sandblasting typically requires a cleanliness level of Sa 2.5 or Sa 3 and a certain degree of roughness (anchor mark depth). Therefore, specific requirements are placed on the hardness and grit size of the abrasive.
Preferred Grit: garnet 20/40 Mesh
Applications:
Initial rust removal and surface treatment of large areas such as large ship hull exteriors, decks, and ballast tanks.
Removes heavy mill scale, old coatings, and rust.
Produces a deep anchor mark profile (Rz approximately 50-100μm), making it ideal for the adhesion of thick-film, high-performance anti-corrosion coatings (such as epoxy zinc-rich primers).
Secondary/Fine Treatment Model: garnet 30/60 Mesh
Applicable Applications:
Areas requiring extremely high surface cleanliness but without requiring deep anchor marks.
Secondary treatment or areas requiring finer surface contours.
For smaller components or repair areas.
