Introduction of Almandine Garnet Abrasive
Almandine garnet is the most widely used industrial garnet abrasive, also known as garnet sand or waterjet garnet. It complies with Chinese industrial standard JB/T 8337-2012 and is extensively used for sandblasting, high-pressure waterjet cutting, precision grinding and water filtration.
1. Basic Information
Names
General titles: Garnet Sand, Almandine Garnet Abrasive, Waterjet Garnet
Color: brown, dark red and maroon. Pickled high-grade garnet boasts bright, even color.
Crystal structure: Isometric crystal system with sub-conchoidal fracture. The sharp angular particles deliver excellent self-sharpening property.

2. Available Mesh Specifications
Garnet abrasives are divided into graded interval grits and single mesh grits. The sieve passing rate is guaranteed above 90%, with actual test results ranging from 95% to 100%.
Sandblasting Grades
20/40#, 30/60# (all-purpose mainstream sizes); 12/24# for heavy-duty rust removal; 80# for delicate fine blasting.
Waterjet Cutting Grades
- 60#: Cutting thick carbon steel, stainless steel, copper and marble
- 80#: Global universal grade for aluminum alloy, glass, ceramic and tile cutting
- 100#, 120#: For thin sheet cutting, intricate engraving and precise micro-hole machining
Grinding & Abrasive Tool Grades
120#, 150#, 180#, 240#, 325#. Suitable for free polishing of optical glass, beer bottles, watch glass, silicon wafers, kinescope and jade. It can be applied to manufacture sandpaper, emery cloth, resin grinding wheels and oilstones, replacing 20%~30% brown fused alumina to cut production cost.
Full optional mesh sizes: 8#, 12#, 16#, 20#, 24#, 30#, 36#, 46#, 60#, 80#, 100#, 120#, 150#, 180#, 240#, 325#
3. Main Applications
3.1 Sandblasting & Rust Removal
Ideal for derusting and descaling ships, containers, steel structures, bridges, pipelines, storage tanks and wind towers. It can reach Sa2.5 surface cleanliness in one blasting operation.
Advantages: low dust output, no grit embedding, no damage to base materials. Recyclable 3–5 times, fit for enclosed indoor blasting work.
3.2 High-Pressure Waterjet Cutting
Capable of cutting metal, glass, ceramic, stone and composite materials. Its sharp grains enable fast cutting and cause less wear on cutting nozzles than brown fused alumina and silicon carbide, lowering overall consumable expenses.
3.3 Precision Polishing and Lapping
Used to finish optical glass, glass bottles, crystal, jade and leather. It also acts as filling material for wear-resistant rubber and brake pads.
3.4 Water Treatment Filter Media
High specific gravity allows rapid sedimentation. It is adopted for filtration of tap water, industrial wastewater, oilfield injection water and mine water, featuring easy backwashing and long service life.
3.5 Wear-resistant Filler
Used for highway pavement, airport runways, anti-slip industrial floors, brake pads and wear-resistant rubber products.
4. Product Advantages for Export
- Environment-friendly: Zero free silica, non-hazardous material, free of environmental import restrictions in Europe, America and Southeast Asia.
- Low dust: Far less dust than quartz sand and copper slag, ensuring clear visibility inside workshops.
- Recyclable toughness: Broken particles retain sharp edges and cutting ability after repeated reuse.
- Stable chemical property: Resists acid and alkali erosion; low chloride prevents secondary rust for workpieces used in marine conditions.
- Appropriate hardness: Will not scratch stainless steel, aluminum and thin metal workpieces, suitable for precision parts processing.
- High cost performance: Lower price than white fused alumina and silicon carbide with remarkable comprehensive cost benefits.
5. Packaging & Shipping Options
- Standard packing: 25kg laminated PP woven bags
- Bulk sea shipment: 1-ton / 1.2-ton IBC bulk bags, pallets available
- Custom service: Neutral packing and private LOGO printing are acceptable
- Logistics: Full-container sea transport and railway delivery available to Russia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe
6. Business Matching Tips
- Consolidated shipping with chromite powder, white fused alumina, silicon carbide and cerabeads is supported.
- Fine mesh garnet is used for frosting and surface polishing of glass bottles.
- HS Code: 2513200000 (natural garnet abrasive)
